Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare...
....is an insane game. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, its a 1st-person shooter videogame that depicts combat in the real world, with realistic physics and detail, none of that sci-fi crap like Halo. As far as presentation and visual detail, it is beyond realistic to the point of being pee-yourself creepy.
In fact, I had to stop playing it because some missions reminded me of Iraq way too vividly. No joke. I almost shit my pants on the extreme detail... but for some reasons when I was playing through the US Marine missions, I had to stop playing after I watched quite a few fictional Marines in-game get killed in combat. I don't know why, "its just a game". No, not when you actually lived the game itself. Watching an imaginary in-game Marine get killed is just as real when you've actually seen a real Marine go down in front of you.
Still, it was entertaining nonetheless. I mean, I've only lost all of sleep as I know it by staying up late playing online. Probably why I forgot to do my paper for class last night and I probably need to hide this game if I ever feel like getting any sleep back.
...........................
I watched a few documentaries where they brought veterans from past wars revisit the former warzones, such as Vietnam, France, and Iwo Jima. Its a strange contrast brought about where films, photos, and footages depict the lowest depths of hell on earth for these men that participated in these wars. Years later in the 21st century, these same men that sweated bullets and ate hand grenades for breakfast went back to revisit their past warzones as tourists; even though the scenery changed, they still remember every account vividly, and emotions fly astray. They could detail every spot they visited-- where they were pinned down, where they shot their first enemy combatant, and where they watched their best friend die.
Maybe if things settle down over in the great Sandbox in the future I could follow afoot. Perhaps maybe, someday in the future I could revisit Iraq again with a camera and fanny pack, instead of body armor and an assault rifle.

visiting would be cool... but please... rethink the fanny pack. haha
Wow, that's creepy and scary about that game. Considering how soldiers go through all this training to be able to deal with those situations and how common PTSD is, yes even if it's "just a game" seeing those images and getting wrapped up in that world has got to be, well, not a good thing for most people or at least not something that's a good thing to become "normal." War should not be entertainment, it's way too serious and deadly to be a joke or a game.
i hear you man!
i want to get call of duty.
So I take it i should get my boyfriend Call of Duty 4 for Christmas(He's in Iraq now and still will be). His grandfather was at Iwo Jima, I heard one story from him and I just cannot imagine, what he still goes through.
fictional Marines or not, it is terrifyingly vivid. I guess this is what separates arcade games from simulations. COD4 is a simulation, but could be part of an indoctrination program.
I do picture you 50 years from now with a fanny pack and glasses...kinda looking like that Grandpa Simpson. And not cause he's yellow and you're Asian. though that's pretty fitting.
Yeah it was nuts, I was watching Medal Of Honor being played at Best Buy. Sure enough they have gigantic home theater systems hooked to the game system. Someone pulled the pin on a grenade (complete with the "PING!" sound of the spoon) and I was on the floor in an instant. The sounds of people yelling for medics, explosions and gunfire are right out of what you would expect in a real fight. I don't know how any war vet can walk into a video game store anymore.
I bet Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, and UAE will be the world's foremost tourist spots some time in the distant future, the same way that Vietnam, Japan, Germany and Korea are now.
I suppose the whole fanny pack (lol) and camera thing will be a lot more relaxing for you then the assault rifle and such. Hopefully it can help you come to terms with some of those nightmares kicking around in your head...consider yourself a walking history book!
Ugh Call of Duty 4...I think my friend was playing that the one day, it was pretty sick as far as graphics and such go, I'm still stuck on my Playstation 1...should've joined the army when I had the chance, maybe then I could've got some money and cool stories to tell. J/k J/k!
dude,, i am addicted to COD...first thing i do when i get back from work...get the controller and turn it on!
The most part of what you reply may be as it should be that's the stuff I weigh up
